Croaked

Sophomore Game Team Project (Spring 2025)

Croaked is a horde-based combat game taking place in the mind of school delinquent, Brad Bradley, as he confronts an army of evil, mind-controlling frogs. The story follows Brad as he traverses the school to rescue his toys and take on his nemesis, the science teacher, Mr. Anura.

As part of a 10-person team, I helped develop the story, wrote all dialogue and in-game content, and created the game’s dialogue system, which rendered speech bubbles in world-space rather than as simple on-screen elements. Below is a selection of posters from the game that I conceptualized and had made with the collaboration of our artists.

Environmental Posters

Included here are a few of the posters that I concepted and had made for the game’s level. These were made for environmental storytelling throughout various parts of the level, as well as guidance for players. The goal was for them to make sense in the world the game takes place in, while still providing important information to the player, such as where to go or where to find healing.

Making the posters was a joint effort between the artists and me. I would go and make simple concepts for what I wanted the posters to look like, including important text, notes on what imagery they should include, and the style they should be. For instance, the wanted poster was styled after the Wild West, while the nurse’s office poster was intended to appear sabotaged by the frogs. I could then give these concepts to the artists so that they have enough information to make the posters as accurate as possible to what I needed them to be.

Dialogue System

Included here is the dialogue system I created for the game, as well as the actual in-game dialogue. It is designed in a way that is very simple for anyone to go and implement dialogue into the game. All it requires is a name, a designated character text color, and the actual dialogue. This was then able to be displayed in the game as a world-space text object designed to show characters speaking in a comic-Esque fashion that fit the game’s aesthetic.
